Panasonic has revealed a slate of significant firmware updates scheduled for its LUMIX S1RII camera and associated S Series lenses, enhancing creative capabilities for users. The updates, set to roll out in 2025, will introduce advanced recording formats such as 8.1K/7.2K Open Gate recording, ARRI LogC3 support, and HEIF recording capabilities. These will be highly beneficial for professional-grade video production and photography enthusiasts.

Further enhancements include improved shooting assistance tools, notably Urban Sports recognition, which will allow the camera to better capture dynamic movements such as breakdancing and skateboarding. Additionally, the updates will allow expanded frame aspect ratio options and new customization features, including using the focus ring as a control ring on compatible lenses like the S-X50, S-R24105, and S-R2060.

The supporting applications, LUMIX Flow and LUMIX Lab, will also see updates. LUMIX Flow 1.1 will now be compatible with the LUMIX S1II and S1IIE models, adding new shooting assist features and the capability to wirelessly transfer live views. Meanwhile, LUMIX Lab 1.5 will introduce support for editing HEIF images, further enhancing the post-production workflow for photographers using LUMIX cameras.

This suite of updates underscores Panasonic's dedication to enhancing its camera ecosystem, empowering creators with tools and features designed to elevate content creation to a professional level. Users can expect the lens firmware and application updates to be available from May 14, 2025, while the S1RII firmware update is anticipated for a free release in the same year.
