Amazon (AMZN, Financial) has confirmed plans to lay off approximately 100 employees in its Devices and Services division. This division encompasses a range of businesses, including the Alexa voice assistant, Echo hardware, Ring smart doorbells, and Zoox robotic taxis.
According to company spokesperson Kristy Schmidt, the decision aims to enhance operational efficiency and better align with the company's product roadmap. While Amazon is committed to supporting affected employees during the transition, it did not specify which teams within the division would be impacted by the layoffs. Despite these cuts, Amazon will continue hiring in the Devices and Services sector.
CEO Andy Jassy has been focused on company-wide cost reduction efforts since early 2022, resulting in 27,000 job cuts so far. Although the scale of layoffs in 2023 is smaller compared to previous years, reductions have also occurred in the Devices and Services division in both 2022 and 2023.
