Utilities and businesses worldwide have reused a staggering 18.1 billion cubic meters of water since 2019, thanks to innovations from global water technology leader, Xylem (XYL). This significant reuse is equivalent to meeting the annual water requirements of more than 350 million people, according to global estimates.
Matthew Pine, Xylem's President and CEO, highlighted the company's role in addressing some of the toughest water challenges globally. The firm utilizes advanced treatment and digital technologies to enhance water source protection, reduce emissions, and boost water infrastructure resilience.
Since initiating its 2025 Sustainability Goals, Xylem's solutions have brought notable advancements, including saving 3.7 billion cubic meters of non-revenue water and preventing 10.7 billion cubic meters of polluted water from contaminating waterways. Notably, in Spain, predictive monitoring helped a provincial water utility prevent major pipeline failures, saving 25,000 cubic meters of water annually.
Moreover, Xylem has reduced water-related CO2e emissions by over 6.4 million metric tons. Looking forward, the company aims to cut annual water demand by 2 billion cubic meters by 2030. This target reinforces Xylem's commitment to sustainability and its mission to create more water-secure communities around the globe.
Xylem's comprehensive approach has also encompassed supplier partnerships, with 43% of its 2024 supplier spending supporting the WASH4Work initiative to expand access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.
