The European Commission has announced that Microsoft has proposed several commitments to resolve the ongoing antitrust investigation related to bundling its Teams app with Office products. In response, the EU has initiated a public consultation.
Microsoft's proposal includes offering Office 365 and Microsoft 365 suites without Teams at a lower price, allowing users to switch to versions without Teams, even under existing contracts. Furthermore, Microsoft has pledged to enhance the interoperability of Teams with rival products and permit users to migrate data from Teams to competing services.
The tech giant has stated that these commitments will ensure the availability of the proposed suites in the European Economic Area for the next seven years. If the EU accepts these commitments, Microsoft plans to standardize the options and pricing for its Office and Teams services globally.
