  • The proposed rate adjustment aims for an annual revenue increase of approximately $26.9 million.
  • The rate change process involves public review and is expected to reach a decision within 10 months.

Kentucky American Water has officially filed a request with the Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) for new rates to accommodate over $212 million in investments aimed at upgrading water infrastructure. This proposal includes enhancements such as replacing 30 miles of aging pipelines and improving storage tanks and other facilities. The commitment to these upgrades underscores the company's dedication to delivering safe, clean, and reliable water services to its customers.

President Rob Burton emphasized the importance of these investments for maintaining high-quality service to approximately 527,000 residents across 13 counties. If approved, the average residential customer using 3,900 gallons per month may see an estimated increase of $9 per month on their water bills. The new rates are expected to take effect on an interim basis about seven months post-filing, with the PSC making a final ruling within 10 months.

The revenue increase sought totals around $26.9 million annually, excluding revenues from the Qualified Infrastructure Program already sanctioned. The comprehensive review process will involve the PSC, the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, and other stakeholders. Moreover, Kentucky American Water provides several customer assistance programs, including payment plans and budget billing, to support income-eligible customers.

Kentucky American Water is a subsidiary of American Water (AWK, Financial), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S. More details on the company's services and ongoing investments can be accessed via their official website and social media channels.
