Nvidia (NVDA, Financials) is helping drive Japan’s newest push into quantum computing. The company’s H100 GPUs now power ABCI-Q, a supercomputer built by Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology.
The system runs on 2,020 GPUs and uses Nvidia’s Quantum-2 InfiniBand and CUDA-Q software to enable hybrid computing — combining AI with quantum processors from Fujitsu, QuEra, and OptQC. That setup allows researchers to run experiments across different quantum systems in a single environment.
Nvidia said the project could speed up work in areas like quantum error correction and software development. AIST called it a stepping-stone toward practical quantum applications.
For investors, it’s another signal of Nvidia’s growing role in shaping the future of AI and quantum tech — and a reminder that the company is betting beyond GPUs.
