Foxconn said Tuesday it will develop a 100-megawatt AI data center with Nvidia (NVDA, Financials), with construction starting in phases across Taiwan. The project was announced during the Computex 2025 trade show in Taipei.
The initial phase will begin with 20 MW of power in Kaohsiung, expanding to other locations based on local power capacity. Foxconn Chairman Young Liu said the rollout will be gradual due to Taiwan's constrained energy resources. “We know that power is a very critical resource in Taiwan,” Liu said.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang described the project as an “AI factory” meant for use by Foxconn, Nvidia, and Taiwan's entire tech ecosystem. He noted Nvidia has over 350 local partners who will benefit from the infrastructure.
The initiative is also backed by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 2330.TW, Financials) and the Taiwanese government. The move comes amid rising global competition in AI and semiconductor infrastructure, positioning Taiwan to play a central role in next-gen compute capacity.
Investors will be watching for updates on construction timelines, power allocation strategies, and downstream AI applications tied to the center's output.
