Granite (GVA), a leading diversified construction company, has been awarded a $54 million contract to execute the first phase of the Parks Highway realignment from milepost 319 to 322 in Alaska. This phase is part of a Construction Manager/General Contractor (CMGC) contract with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities, aimed at reducing sharp corners and improving traffic safety along the highway. The construction commenced on May 1, 2025, with an estimated completion date set for September 2027.
The project involves extensive onsite earthwork amounting to 2.5 million cubic yards and 25,000 tons of asphalt paving. A full traffic diversion will be implemented to facilitate the construction. Granite is deploying its comprehensive equipment fleet, including a portable crusher and hot plant, to ensure efficient project execution. The value for the subsequent segment of the project is projected to be approximately $35 million.
"By employing the CMGC approach, the project team was able to identify and design a 'best for project' plan that ensures the most efficient use of funding," stated Ryan Moren, Granite Vice President of Regional Operations. This collaborative approach involved contributions from DOT&PF, Michael Baker International (designer), and Granite, ensuring an optimal design and successful contract award.
