Navitas Semiconductor (NVTS) has entered into a strategic collaboration with NVIDIA (NVDA) to create next-generation 800V HVDC architecture designed for data centers. This initiative focuses on enhancing NVIDIA's 'Kyber' rack-scale systems, which support GPU units like the Rubin Ultra, with the capacity to power IT racks of 1 MW and beyond.

The collaboration promises several significant enhancements over the traditional 54V systems, including a 45% decrease in copper wire thickness, an end-to-end power efficiency improvement of up to 5%, and a 70% reduction in maintenance expenses. Additionally, the new system is expected to lower cooling costs.

Navitas will leverage its GaNFast™ and GeneSiC™ power semiconductors to support this project, featuring GaNSafe™ power ICs that provide advanced safety features and GeneSiC's proprietary 'trench-assisted planar' technology. Navitas has already demonstrated expertise in this sector with projects like the world's first 8.5 kW AI data center power supply, achieving 98% efficiency, and unveiling a 12 kW PSU at Computex.

This venture is a major step toward addressing the growing power needs of AI data centers, which require gigawatts of energy, by shifting from the current physical constraints of 54V systems. The 800V HVDC system employs higher voltage to efficiently power IT racks, facilitating direct conversion and resulting in reduced copper needs and higher efficiency.
