  • NexusWave achieves download speeds of 330-340 Mbps and upload speeds of 70-80 Mbps.
  • Network availability exceeds 99.9% in real-world tests.
  • Future integration with ViaSat-3 Ka-band network will increase connectivity speeds further.

Inmarsat Maritime, a Viasat company, has secured a significant fleet-wide connectivity upgrade agreement with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL). The partnership entails upgrading MOL's fleet from Fleet Xpress to NexusWave, Inmarsat’s fully managed bonded connectivity service. This transition will encompass MOL's diverse maritime fleet, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, oil tankers, and car carriers.

JSAT MOBILE Communications, a local Inmarsat partner, will oversee the implementation of these upgrades. NexusWave has already demonstrated exceptional performance, with real-world tests showing download speeds of 330-340 Mbps, upload speeds of 70-80 Mbps, and network availability surpassing 99.9%. This service is designed to support MOL's vision of converting vessels into floating offices and homes, ensuring high-speed internet connectivity with robust cybersecurity measures and round-the-clock technical support.

The strategic collaboration with MOL marks a significant expansion within the maritime digitalization sector for Viasat's Inmarsat division. It's underscored by a long-term service relationship rather than a one-time hardware installation, catering to MOL's evolving operational needs. Furthermore, the planned integration with the ViaSat-3 Ka-band network promises to further enhance NexusWave's capabilities, positioning Viasat (VSAT, Financial) prominently in the maritime connectivity arena.
