  • E3 Lithium (ETL, EEMMF) and Pure Lithium report successful results from Phase 1 of their lithium metal battery joint development.
  • The batteries achieved a high purity level of >99.9% lithium metal and over 500 charge-discharge cycles.
  • The development demonstrates a cost-effective production method using E3 Lithium's brines and Pure Lithium's technology.

E3 Lithium Ltd. (TSXV: ETL) (OTCQX: EEMMF) and Pure Lithium have announced promising results from the first phase of their joint lithium metal battery development. The collaboration leverages E3 Lithium's brine resources and direct lithium extraction (DLE) technology alongside Pure Lithium's advanced extraction and battery production methods.

The initial phase involved the production of lithium metal anodes using lithium chloride concentrate from E3 Lithium's Leduc brines. The anodes demonstrated high purity, with more than 99.9% pure lithium metal, as confirmed by ICP-OES analysis. Additionally, when integrated into full cells, these batteries sustained over 500 charge and discharge cycles while maintaining 80% of their capacity.

Charge and discharge performance tests conducted at a 1C:1D ratio showcased a robust process, with no significant differences in performance between anodes made from E3 Lithium's resources and those produced from conventional sources. This finding underscores the efficacy of the integrated approach by E3 Lithium and Pure Lithium.

The companies remain committed to advancing this technology and are working on developing an integrated process that could further reduce costs while maintaining high standards of purity and performance. Chris Doornbos, CEO of E3 Lithium, expressed optimism about building a local supply chain for lithium batteries, while Pure Lithium's CEO, Emilie Bodoin, highlighted the innovation in using unconventional lithium sources effectively.
