- Semtech (SMTC, Financial) partners with Yorkshire Water to deploy LoRaWAN smart meters, saving over 1.22 megaliters of water daily.
- The project aims to install 1.3 million smart water meters over five years, significantly enhancing water management efficiency.
- Yorkshire Water's implementation has identified over 1,000 leaks, projecting an 8 megaliter per day leak reduction upon full deployment.
Semtech Corporation (SMTC), a leader in semiconductor and IoT systems, has announced a significant partnership with Yorkshire Water and Netmore Group. This collaboration has led to the deployment of one of the U.K.'s largest smart water metering projects using Semtech's LoRaWAN technology. The large-scale initiative is expected to install 1.3 million smart water meters over a five-year period, which will transform water management in the region.
The current deployment has already realized impressive results, including daily water savings of over 1.22 megaliters and the identification of over 1,000 customer-side leaks. Yorkshire Water anticipates a reduction of 8 megaliters of leakage per day as the project reaches full implementation. Additionally, the project is projected to decrease household water consumption by 2 liters per person daily and reduce non-household water demand by 15% by 2050.
"Our collaboration with Semtech and Netmore allows us to revolutionize water management, making it more efficient and eco-friendly," stated James Wilson, the Smart Metering Delivery Manager at Yorkshire Water. The initiative not only addresses critical water conservation challenges but also reduces operational costs, with meter batteries lasting up to 15 years.
Semtech's robust network architecture ensures reliable coverage and connectivity, enabling millions of daily meter readings through Netmore's platform. This infrastructure facilitates real-time leak detection and provides detailed data on water usage, contributing to a more sustainable future.
