JLens, in collaboration with the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), has announced that major independent proxy advisory firms Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) and Glass Lewis are endorsing a shareholder proposal aimed at combating hate speech on Meta Platforms, Inc. (META, Financial). These firms recommend shareholders vote in favor of Proposal 8, which focuses on strengthening controls against antisemitism and similar hate content on Meta's platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.

Proposal 8 specifically demands that Meta prepare a comprehensive report evaluating its current policies and practices in addressing hate content. It urges the company to assess the effectiveness of its moderation, enforcement measures, user protection strategies, advertising policies, and transparency efforts. The proposal insists on making these findings publicly accessible within a year to ensure accountability and enhance user safety.

Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL's CEO and National Director, welcomed the support from ISS and Glass Lewis, emphasizing the urgency for Meta to improve its content moderation practices to better tackle hate speech. Ari Hoffnung, Managing Director of JLens, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the proposal's potential to bolster user safety, preserve brand reputation, and support Meta's long-term shareholder value.

Meta's annual shareholder meeting, held on May 28, 2025, will determine the outcome of this proposal as stakeholders decide on the direction of the company's efforts to eliminate hateful content from its platforms.
