Kyndryl (KD), a leader in mission-critical enterprise technology services, has announced its collaboration with the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to overhaul its IT infrastructure. This ambitious project aims to transform customer service by replacing the existing Citizen Services Solution with a cloud-native system named MAX, which will operate on the Microsoft Azure platform.
The innovative MAX system, originally developed in Arizona, is poised to handle more than 200,000 daily transactions. It will be implemented across DMV headquarters, customer service centers, and call centers throughout Virginia. This modernization effort will migrate essential applications from legacy mainframe systems to a modern cloud architecture, significantly enhancing transactional efficiency and security.
The system's transition to a cloud environment will not only streamline internal processes but also meet rigorous federal and state security standards, safeguarding sensitive customer data. The cloud platform will enable the Virginia DMV to continuously innovate, offering improved and more agile services to residents and facilitating potential inter-jurisdictional system sharing through intergovernmental agreements.
Virginia's Secretary of Transportation, W. Sheppard Miller III, expressed optimism about the partnership with Kyndryl, highlighting the benefits for Virginia's residents. Gerald Lackey, Commissioner of the Virginia DMV, reaffirmed the department's commitment to enhancing service delivery and preparing for future efficiencies.
James Rutledge, President of Kyndryl U.S., emphasized the importance of technology-driven services in reducing costs and improving public service outcomes. This modernization underscores Virginia's focus on leveraging technology for superior service delivery, maximizing public resources, and enhancing the overall customer experience.
