Apple (AAPL, Financial) is reportedly preparing to overhaul the naming convention of its iOS operating system, transitioning to a year-based format. According to sources, the upcoming operating system will be called iOS 26 instead of iOS 18, with similar updates for other platforms such as iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26.

This strategic move aims to enhance brand consistency across Apple's product lineup. The shift is designed to eliminate potential confusion among users and developers caused by the current naming scheme. Expectations are high for Apple to disclose this significant adjustment during their Worldwide Developers Conference in June.
