Meta Platforms (META, Financial) is collaborating with defense contractor Anduril Industries Inc. to create new products for the U.S. military, including an AI-powered helmet with virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) capabilities. Anduril announced that they are working with Meta to design, build, and deploy integrated XR products to enhance soldiers' situational awareness and allow intuitive control of autonomous platforms on the battlefield.

One of the products, named "Eagle Eye," is described as a sci-fi military helmet. Palmer Luckey, co-founder of Anduril and Oculus VR, which was sold to Meta in 2014, mentioned that such technology has long been a dream, often referred to as "Call of Duty glasses" or "Halo helmets."

In November last year, Meta updated its "acceptable use" policy to permit U.S. military contractors like Lockheed Martin, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Palantir Technologies to utilize its large language AI models. This partnership marks a surprising reunion between Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Luckey, who was previously dismissed from Meta over political controversies.
