T-Mobile (NASDAQ:TMUS) is partnering with SailGP to introduce cutting-edge 5G technology to sailing broadcasts during the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix. The event, scheduled for June 7-8 on Governors Island, will showcase T-Mobile's 5G Advanced Network Solutions (5G ANS), which includes hybrid and private networks and network slicing capabilities.
This collaboration aims to transform the on-water experience by providing real-time, AI-enhanced camera angles and race marks that deliver live data and broadcast footage. The advanced 5G connection will enable high-speed data delivery for sharper race operations and enhanced fan engagement from remote locations.
SailGP's Chief Technology Officer, Warren Jones, emphasized the importance of this technology in managing dynamic water conditions and ensuring fair, precise race adjudication. The initiative will incorporate additional cameras on racing catamarans, offering diverse angle views and capturing intense onboard action as well as wide-angle shots of race dynamics and environmental conditions.
With the integration of IoT sensors and autonomous AI-enabled buoys, SailGP can collect real-time environmental and race data, adapting swiftly to changing conditions while contributing to fairer and more exciting races.
Looking to the future, T-Mobile and SailGP are exploring further innovations such as live drone footage to enhance aerial coverage, pushing the boundaries of real-time broadcast technology.
