Pony.ai (PONY), a leader in autonomous driving technology, has launched public road testing for its seventh-generation Robotaxis in the bustling cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, China. This marks a pivotal step in the company's transition from research and development to commercial deployment.
The new Gen-7 system is equipped with the Aion V model from Guangzhou Auto (GAC), featuring an advanced autonomous driving system introduced at the Shanghai Auto Show. Notable improvements include the use of 100% automotive-grade components and a remarkable 70% reduction in bill-of-materials (BOM) costs, paving the way for more cost-effective production.
Pony.ai's Gen-7 Robotaxis come equipped with six types of mass-production sensors, delivering 360-degree, blind-spot-free perception. This ensures reliable operation even in adverse weather conditions, thanks to proprietary sensor cleaning solutions developed by Pony.ai. Furthermore, the integration of reinforcement learning in their PonyWorld model enhances the system's ability to navigate complex, real-world scenarios.
With over 45 million kilometers in global autonomous test mileage and 500,000 hours of fully driverless operation, Pony.ai has demonstrated significant progress and experience in the autonomous driving sector. The company's roadmap includes deploying a fleet of more than 1,000 vehicles by the end of 2025, indicating its aggressive push towards scaling operations.
Supporting these ambitious plans are strategic partnerships with global technology and mobility giants such as Tencent Cloud, Alipay, Uber, and ComfortDelGro. These alliances ensure a robust ecosystem for widespread commercialization and market penetration beyond China.
