Qualcomm Incorporated (QCOM) has signed an agreement to acquire Alphawave IP Group plc, known as Alphawave Semi, for an implied enterprise value of approximately $2.4 billion. This strategic acquisition is set to enhance Qualcomm’s offerings in high-performance, low-power computing solutions, particularly in data centers. The acquisition is structured through Aqua Acquisition Sub LLC, an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm.
The integration of Alphawave’s high-speed wired connectivity and compute technologies will bolster Qualcomm's existing portfolio, which includes the Qualcomm Oryon CPU and Hexagon NPU processors. These processors are tailored to meet the escalating demand for AI inferencing and custom CPUs within data centers.
Alphawave Semi, a leader in connectivity and compute technologies, provides cutting-edge IP and custom silicon solutions that ensure faster data transfer with reduced power consumption. Its portfolio is instrumental for various high-growth applications such as AI, data networking, and data storage.
CEO of Qualcomm, Cristiano Amon, highlighted that the acquisition would combine efforts to pioneer advanced technology solutions and boost connected computing performance in diverse sectors.
Tony Pialis, CEO of Alphawave Semi, expressed that joining forces with Qualcomm would expand their product offerings, cater to a broader clientele, and drive innovation in AI compute and connectivity solutions.
The completion of this acquisition is anticipated in the first quarter of 2026, contingent upon regulatory approvals, shareholder agreement, and court sanction in the UK.
