Twilio (TWLO, Financial) has announced a strategic partnership with Orange, one of the leading telecommunications operators, to expand the use of Rich Communication Services (RCS) Business Messaging across France. This collaboration, unveiled at Transform London, is a significant advancement in mobile messaging technology, enabling businesses to offer customers a secure, interactive, and enriched communications experience directly through their messaging apps.

As of June 1, 2025, RCS already covers more than 70% of the mobile users in France, equating to over 45 million smartphones, with expectations to reach 85% coverage by the end of the year. Twilio's recognized expertise will support Orange in deploying this next-generation messaging solution, underlining the importance of trust and transparency in customer communications.

The partnership aligns with findings from Twilio's 2025 State of Customer Engagement Report, which indicates that 75% of businesses plan to invest in RCS messaging this year, with a notable 81% of consumers preferring RCS over traditional SMS. This preference is attributed to RCS's ability to provide a credible and engaging communication channel, enhancing brand-customer relationships.

With the introduction of RCS, businesses in France can expect improved customer engagement through dynamic features such as images, carousels, and actionable buttons. For regions still transitioning to RCS, Twilio ensures a seamless fallback to SMS, maintaining uninterrupted service. This initiative represents a significant opportunity for brands to stand out in a competitive digital landscape by offering rich, branded communications with verified sender identities.
