Google has appointed Koray Kavukcuoglu, the Chief Technology Officer of Google DeepMind, as the new Senior Vice President and Chief AI Architect. This move underscores Google's commitment to prioritizing artificial intelligence (AI) by integrating it into more products. Kavukcuoglu will report directly to Google's CEO, Sundar Pichai, and will help accelerate the integration of leading AI models into Google's offerings for enhanced efficiency and seamless integration. He will be relocating from London to Mountain View, California.
This executive appointment comes as Google faces pressure to monetize its flagship AI technology, primarily developed within its DeepMind division. Since 2023, Google has been integrating DeepMind into its broader organizational structure. Despite rapid advancements in AI, tech companies have yet to demonstrate significant returns, although capital expenditures continue to rise. Google announced a $75 billion investment in AI infrastructure earlier this year while simultaneously working to cut costs.
Google is not alone in its AI investments; other tech giants like Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and startups such as OpenAI are also heavily investing in AI technologies. Recently, Google unveiled a new range of AI products at its annual I/O conference, including a $249.99 monthly subscription plan for early access to AI tools and experimental products.
