Google's engineering team is actively investigating the issue, although no estimated time for resolution has been provided. This incident poses a setback for Google as it strives to compete with larger cloud infrastructure rivals, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure.
Shopify, a major Google Cloud client, reported service disruptions, while OpenAI faced login issues. According to Downdetector, reports of Google Cloud issues peaked at over 13,000 but later decreased. Google confirmed the outage affected 13 cloud services across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Other impacted services included Amazon's Twitch, CoreWeave's Weights and Biases, Elastic, GitLab, LangChain, Microsoft's GitHub, Replit, and Intuit's Mailchimp.
Cloudflare, a cloud security and content delivery network giant, reported issues due to the Google Cloud outage, causing its stock to drop 5%. Despite the disruptions, Cloudflare stated its core services remained operational. Additionally, searches for Google's Firebase, a platform for building web and mobile apps, surged during the outage.
