Over the past decade, Amazon (AMZN, Financial) has persistently attempted to penetrate the U.S. healthcare market through billion-dollar acquisitions, recruitment of star executives, and significant partnerships. Despite these efforts, the journey has been challenging, and the company's long-term strategy has not always been clear.
Following a series of executive departures, Amazon is now restructuring its healthcare business. The company announced plans to divide Amazon Health Services into six new units to create a more streamlined structure. This reorganization involves appointing experienced Amazon managers and promoting some One Medical executives to oversee various business lines.
Neil Lindsay, Senior Vice President of Amazon Health Services, mentioned that this reform has been in preparation for several months. The leadership team is focused on simplifying the organizational structure to enhance execution efficiency and drive effective innovation. One of the key issues they aim to address is the fragmented patient and customer experience prevalent in the healthcare industry.
Amazon emphasized that this restructuring will not involve large-scale layoffs.
