South Korea's SK Group has announced a collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to construct the country's largest artificial intelligence (AI) data center. The project is expected to kick off later this month, with a groundbreaking ceremony planned for August. While exact timelines and details remain unspecified, the data center will be located in the Mipo Industrial Complex in Ulsan, approximately 305 kilometers southeast of Seoul.

The facility will house 60,000 graphics processing units (GPUs) and have a power capacity of 100 megawatts, marking it as the first AI infrastructure of this scale in South Korea. SK Telecom's CEO, Yoo Young-sang, highlighted the company's commitment to advancing AI capabilities at the Mobile World Congress 2025 held in Spain. SK Telecom plans to invest 3.4 trillion Korean won (approximately $2.49 billion) in AI infrastructure by 2028, with a significant portion allocated to this data center project.

AWS, a subsidiary of Amazon, specializes in providing on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, businesses, and governments.
