  • Coherent Corp. (COHR, Financial) expands PowerMax™ sensor line with PM15K+ and PM10K+ backscatter shield innovations.
  • PM15K+ sensor measures continuous laser power up to 15 kW and features a 5-second response time.
  • New backscatter shield reduces reflected laser energy significantly, enhancing accuracy and safety.

Coherent Corp. (COHR), a leader in photonics, has unveiled two groundbreaking additions to its PowerMax™ sensor lineup. The newly introduced PM15K+ high-power laser sensor is engineered to measure continuous laser power up to 15 kW, while accommodating intermittent power handling up to 20 kW. Its expansive 100 mm x 100 mm active area is adept for the wide beam diameters commonly found in high-power diode and fiber laser systems. With a swift response time of merely 5 seconds, the PM15K+ is well-suited for high-throughput industrial environments demanding fast and reliable laser power measurements.

In addition, Coherent has advanced its PM10K+ sensor with an innovative backscatter shield. This enhancement markedly improves laser measurement accuracy and safety by reducing reflected laser energy from 10-15% to a remarkable 1% or less. The shield, featuring a 65 mm round input aperture, seamlessly integrates with existing PM10K+ systems, capturing stray laser light and preventing potential interference with nearby equipment or personnel.

"These innovations underscore our dedication to enhancing laser measurement technology," stated Dr. Torsten Rauch, Senior Vice President of Coherent's Solid State Business Unit. "The PM15K+ and the new backscatter shield for the PM10K+ provide users with advanced tools for accurate, efficient, and safe high-power laser measurement."

Both the PM15K+ sensor and the PM10K+ backscatter shield are readily available and compatible with the Coherent LabMax-Pro and PowerMax-Pro systems, supporting a broad spectrum of applications in industrial manufacturing, scientific research, and medical laser fields.
