OpenAI has secured a $200 million pilot project contract to assist the US Department of Defense (DoD) in exploring the application of artificial intelligence (AI) for various administrative and security tasks. This one-year contract marks OpenAI's latest effort to provide its technology to the US government.
According to OpenAI, the project is the inaugural initiative under its new entity, OpenAI for Government. The collaboration will focus on how AI can streamline administrative tasks, such as improving healthcare access for US military personnel and enhancing cybersecurity measures.
OpenAI for Government aims to consolidate all of OpenAI's existing government projects. This includes ChatGPT Gov, a version of ChatGPT tailored for government use, and partnerships with NASA, the National Institutes of Health, the Air Force Research Laboratory, and the Department of the Treasury.
