U.S. Retail Sales Experience Largest Drop This Year Due to New Tariffs

U.S. retail sales in May recorded the largest decline since the beginning of the year, highlighting the impact of new tariffs on consumer spending, particularly in the automotive sector. According to data released by the U.S. Department of Commerce, retail sales fell 0.9% month-over-month in May, following a revised 0.1% decrease in April. When excluding automobiles, retail sales saw a 0.3% decline.
