Several Democratic lawmakers from Texas have urged Tesla (TSLA, Financial) to postpone the launch of its autonomous Robotaxi service in Austin until September. This request aligns with the impending enactment of a new self-driving regulation aimed at enhancing public safety and building trust in Tesla's operations.

This new legislation, pending the governor's signature, will require companies to obtain operational authorization for self-driving vehicles in the state for the first time. While Tesla CEO Elon Musk has tentatively planned a press conference, the company is yet to finalize its decision on the launch date.

If Tesla proceeds with the Robotaxi debut this month, lawmakers seek comprehensive details about how the company intends to comply with the new legal requirements. This development reflects ongoing regulatory challenges as Tesla expands its autonomous vehicle initiatives.
