American Water (AWK), the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., will be actively participating in the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Conference of Regulatory Utilities Commissioners (MACRUC) Annual Education Conference. This event, taking place from June 22-25, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, will see Laura Runkle, President of Virginia and Maryland American Water, joining a panel discussion on the role of utilities in preparing for and responding to extreme weather.

The panel, titled “Surviving the Storm: Utilities’ Role in Preparing for and Responding to Extreme Weather,” will explore strategies that utilities are using to enhance infrastructure, improve preparedness, and foster community partnerships. Runkle will share insights into American Water’s approach to ensuring safe, reliable service and resilient systems that safeguard critical services during crises.

Cheryl Norton, EVP and COO of American Water, emphasized the company's commitment to building resilient systems, highlighting ongoing efforts to innovate and invest in smart infrastructure. As part of this commitment, American Water plans a significant investment of between $40 billion to $42 billion over the next 10 years in infrastructure repairs and system resiliency.
