  • WISeKey (WKEY, Financial) successfully launched WISeSat 3 with SpaceX's Falcon 9, establishing the first space-based DePIN.
  • The satellite integrates SEALSQ's Quantum RootKey technology and features SEALCOIN token exchanges directly from orbit.
  • Post-quantum cryptography is implemented to secure space communications from future quantum threats.

WISeKey International Holding Ltd (WKEY), a leader in cybersecurity and blockchain solutions, announced the successful launch of its WISeSat 3 satellite on June 23, 2025. The launch took place aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 Transporter-14 mission from Vandenberg, California. This marks the first-ever Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) from space, integrating SEALSQ’s Quantum RootKey technology.

The new satellite facilitates SEALCOIN token exchanges, in collaboration with Hedera, directly from orbit, signaling a milestone in the integration of blockchain technology into space infrastructure. By employing post-quantum cryptography (PQC), WISeSat 3 aims to protect communication against future quantum computing threats that could compromise current encryption methods such as RSA. These PQC algorithms comply with the latest standards from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), ensuring a forward-compatible security architecture that can seamlessly integrate with existing systems.

This strategic advancement enhances WISeKey’s satellite constellation, bolstering Europe’s space and cybersecurity strengths. It promises sovereign, secure, and scalable satellite services focusing on IoT, digital identity, and trusted data transmission. The implementation of PQC in WISeSat 3 demonstrates how cryptographic security can be extended into orbit, securing communications for the foreseeable future.

Carlos Moreira, Founder and CEO of WISeKey, emphasized the significance of the launch: “By embedding PQC and enabling blockchain-based tokenization from orbit, we are reshaping the way cybersecurity, finance, and space technology converge.” This launch represents a pivotal move in securing digital communications as quantum computing capabilities evolve.
