Amazon has announced plans to invest £40 billion ($54 billion) in the UK over the next three years, further strengthening its commitment to the region. This expansion is expected to create thousands of jobs, reinforcing the UK's position as Amazon's third-largest market after the US and Germany. Currently, Amazon employs 75,000 people in the UK, making it one of the top ten private-sector employers.

The investment plan includes the construction of two new advanced fulfillment centers in the East Midlands, set to be operational by 2027. Additionally, previously announced centers in Hull and Northampton will open this year and next, respectively, creating 2,000 jobs. These fulfillment centers, which utilize advanced technologies including robotics, will handle the picking, packing, and shipping of customer orders.

Amazon also plans to build new delivery stations, upgrade over 100 existing operational buildings, and enhance transportation infrastructure. The company will construct two new buildings at its London headquarters and renovate the historic Bray Studios in Berkshire, acquired by Amazon Prime Video last July.

The investment includes part of an £8 billion allocation by Amazon's cloud computing division for data center development from 2024 to 2028. The UK government has praised this investment as a vote of confidence in its economic policies.
