  • Garmin expands FAA Data Comm to include retrofit market for GTN 750Xi series navigators.
  • Automated departure clearances available at over 60 airports.
  • Enroute communication coverage across the U.S. above 16,000 feet MSL.

Garmin (GRMN, Financial) has announced the expansion of its FAA Data Comm solution to the broad retrofit market, integrating the technology into its GTN 750Xi series navigators via the GDR 66 VHF data link transceiver. This expansion allows more than 25 different makes and models of aircraft to benefit from enhanced, text-based communications between pilots and air traffic control, significantly improving operational efficiency and communication clarity.

The newly expanded system facilitates automated loading of departure clearances at over 60 airports, mitigating potential read-back errors and enhancing departure efficiency at busy hubs. Furthermore, the system supports enroute communications above 16,000 feet MSL across the United States, benefiting from all air traffic control centers now being Data Comm capable.

When paired with Garmin's TXi flight displays, pilots enjoy enhanced push-to-load functionality, enabling direct loading of critical flight information such as clearances and frequencies into avionics systems. This integration reduces pilot workload and potential errors during flight operations.

With the FAA Data Comm now accessible to a broader audience, Garmin is poised to capture greater market share while bolstering its commitment to innovation and advancement in aviation technology. The system requires the GTN 750Xi series navigator, a new Data Comm enablement, and a GDR 66 datalink radio, with optional enhancements available through TXi flight displays. Annual subscriptions for the service are available through Garmin.
