Data management software provider Rubrik (RBRK, Financial) announced its acquisition of AI-focused startup Predibase. Although terms are undisclosed, insiders estimate the deal to be valued between $100 million and $500 million. This strategic move aligns with Rubrik's entry into the AI sector. By leasing NVIDIA (NVDA) GPUs, cloud infrastructure providers have generated billions in revenue for AI model training and operation. AI developers like Anthropic and OpenAI are also rapidly expanding by offering chatbot services.

Rubrik, which went public last year, has built a $1 billion business by providing data backup solutions that help clients recover quickly from cyberattacks. The acquisition of Predibase will expand Rubrik's capabilities, allowing businesses to economically utilize internal data models. CEO Bipul Sinha sees this as a step towards becoming a multi-product company. Predibase, founded in 2021 by Travis Addair and Piero Molino, has 25 employees and is based in San Francisco, backed by over $28 million in venture funding from Felicis and Greylock Partners.

Post-acquisition, Predibase will operate independently, enabling clients to connect data from various third-party systems like Amazon and Databricks to customize models.
