Apple Inc. (AAPL, Financial) has announced changes to its App Store to avert a €500 million fine from the European Union for violating the Digital Markets Act (DMA). This legal issue arose due to Apple's so-called anti-steering rules, which have been deemed non-compliant with EU regulations. The company has been given 60 days to align with the standards set by the EU.
The revised policy includes new fee structures and system plans for developers, alongside fresh guidelines for European developers. A notable change is the introduction of a 5% "core technology commission" fee on all digital purchases conducted outside the App Store. Apple plans to appeal the European Commission's decision and associated fine in the European courts by July 7.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the European Commission stated that they are reviewing Apple's new policy to ensure it meets EU legislative requirements.
