Privacy Concerns Prompt Apple (AAPL) and Google to Review App Listings

Article's Main Image

Germany's top privacy regulator has issued a warning to Apple (AAPL, Financial) and Google regarding the app DeepSeek, available on their platforms, Apple Store and Google Play. The regulator cites concerns that DeepSeek could breach user privacy by transferring user data to China without adequate security measures. The Berlin Data Protection Commissioner, Meike Kamp, noted that DeepSeek did not comply with previous requests to enhance data security for German users.

As a result, under a specific clause of the EU's Digital Services Act, tech platforms like Apple and Google are being urged to remove illegal content from their platforms. This move underscores the increasing scrutiny on tech companies to safeguard user data and comply with regional data protection laws.
