Tesla recently showcased a groundbreaking achievement by releasing a video of a Model Y vehicle completing a fully autonomous, driverless ride. The journey, which lasted 30 minutes, had the car travel at a top speed of 115 kilometers per hour. CEO Elon Musk highlighted this event as the first time Tesla has directly delivered a vehicle autonomously to a new owner.
The Model Y embarked on this journey from Tesla's factory in Texas, covering the distance entirely on its own, ultimately arriving safely at the customer's doorstep. Musk emphasized on social media that the vehicle operated without any human presence inside or external remote control, marking a significant advancement in autonomous driving technology.
The owner of the Model Y shared that the opportunity to be part of this historic delivery was coincidental. They received an unexpected call asking if they would like to become the "first globally" to receive an autonomous delivery. Following this, the newly purchased car made its way to their home autonomously.
Lei Jun, Chairman of Xiaomi Group, also commented on the development, praising Tesla's leadership in the autonomous driving sector, particularly their Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities, and expressed the need for continued learning in this field.
