Tesla (TSLA, Financial) has successfully completed its first autonomous vehicle delivery. The company delivered a Model Y SUV from its Texas Gigafactory to a local apartment building in Austin. The entire journey, shared on Tesla's social media, showcased the Model Y navigating highways, residential streets, and parking lots without a driver or front-seat passenger, culminating in a seamless handover to the customer.
Despite the impressive demonstration, Tesla did not disclose the specific software and hardware versions used in the vehicle or when this autonomous technology might become commercially available for customers. The event caught the attention of Xiaomi's CEO, who praised Tesla for leading industry trends, particularly in full self-driving (FSD) capabilities, highlighting the areas where Xiaomi aims to learn and evolve.
