Meta (META, Financial) is investing billions to lead in the AI race, focusing on data centers and hiring top talent to develop advanced language models. Recently, Meta recruited four key AI researchers from OpenAI, including leaders of significant projects like GPT-4.1 and o3-mini. This follows Meta's earlier recruitment of former OpenAI Zurich employees.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly promised up to $100 million in compensation to attract AI talent. The company is also negotiating with Safe Superintelligence's CEO and former GitHub CEO for its superintelligence lab, despite initial acquisition attempts being rejected.

Meta's strategic moves come after investing $14.3 billion in AI startup Scale AI and considering, but not finalizing, the acquisition of Perplexity AI. Meta's AI strategy differs from others by open-sourcing its models and setting user restrictions based on active user numbers.

Meta aims to enhance its AI models through user-generated data and primarily uses AI to bolster its advertising services. The company also integrates AI into hardware like Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. Meanwhile, rivals like Apple (AAPL) and Samsung are exploring AI advancements, with Apple reportedly delaying its AI-driven Siri launch.
