Yun-Ta Tsai, a former Nokia engineer and current senior engineer at Tesla (TSLA), voiced concerns on social media regarding Apple's (AAPL, Financial) slow advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and autonomous vehicles. Reflecting on his Nokia days, Tsai recounted the hesitance of Finnish engineers towards transitioning from physical keyboards to touchscreens, which was in stark contrast to American engineers advocating for the change.

Tsai highlighted that the "legacy pillars" issue, which previously hindered Nokia, now affects Apple. Pierre Ferragu, an analyst at New Street Research, supported Tsai's view, recalling Nokia's dismissive stance on touchscreens in 2007. Tsai further critiqued Apple's approach to emerging technologies, stating that despite having competitive hardware, the company struggles with execution. He emphasized that Apple's complacency contributes to their inertia despite having the resources to dominate.

Additionally, Tsai criticized Apple's dismissive attitude toward full self-driving (FSD) capabilities, highlighting the company's slow pace and overconfidence in their models. He concluded that Apple's issue is not with technology or chips, but rather with execution.
