Meta Platforms Inc. (META, Financial) has announced the creation of Meta Superintelligence Labs, led by newly hired AI experts including former Scale AI CEO Alexander Wang and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman. Alexander Wang will serve as Meta's Chief AI Officer. This new venture, revealed by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, will incorporate top AI talent from companies like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind.

The announcement resulted in a significant increase in Meta's stock price, which rose by 0.61% to reach a record high, reflecting investor enthusiasm for the company's new AI initiative. According to an internal memo, the AI Superintelligence department will unify various teams focused on foundational AI models, such as the open-source Llama software and other AI research projects.

Amid fierce competition from rivals like OpenAI and Google, Zuckerberg has been aggressively recruiting AI talent. Earlier in June, Meta announced its plan to hire Alexander Wang and his colleagues as part of a $14.3 billion investment in Scale AI. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently mentioned that Meta is offering bonuses up to $100 million to attract AI researchers from his company.
