Amazon (AMZN, Financial) is nearing a milestone where the number of robots in its warehouses will match its human workforce. The company has deployed over one million robots, with approximately 75% of its global distribution operations now assisted by robotics. Amazon employs around 1.56 million people, mostly in its warehouses.
The average number of employees per facility decreased to about 670 last year, marking a 16-year low. This shift is part of a broader trend, as Amazon's CEO Andy Jassy indicated that the company plans to reduce its workforce in the coming years due to the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence.
Amazon's stock has remained stable this year, with little change in pre-market trading.
