Google, a subsidiary of Alphabet (GOOGL, Financial), has utilized its most valuable space, the Google Doodle, to promote its latest AI search product, AI Mode. This feature is prominently displayed on the Google Chrome start page and Google homepage, featuring an animated image that directs users to the AI Mode page. The doodle also includes a share button to increase visibility.
This promotion comes as Google faces increasing competition from AI startups such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Perplexity AI. AI Mode offers a chatbot-like experience designed to handle complex user queries and has been displayed alongside search results since March. The product description encourages users to "search any question of interest and receive AI-driven responses."
Powered by Google's flagship AI model, Gemini, AI Mode has been gradually rolled out to more users in the U.S. Users can interact with AI Mode through text, voice, or images, making it easier to obtain answers to complex questions that previously required multiple searches.
In May, Google tested integrating AI Mode directly below the search bar, replacing the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, which is a rarely changed element on the site.
