Cappagh Browne, a leading utility service provider in the UK, has successfully reduced dangerous driving behaviors by 95% just one week after implementing targeted safety training powered by AI Dash Cams and GPS-tracking technology from Samsara (IOT, Financial). This significant reduction marks an essential step toward improving fleet safety, reducing on-road risks, and increasing operational visibility.

The introduction of Samsara's Connected Operations Platform has provided Cappagh Browne with real-time insight into driver behaviors, including harsh braking, mobile phone use, speeding, seatbelt violations, and inattentive driving. This visibility has enabled immediate coaching and faster safety interventions across Cappagh Browne's 250-vehicle fleet, which completes over 65,000 jobs annually.

Key performance metrics illustrate the platform's impact: an 88% decrease in at-fault accident claims within a year, reducing insurance costs and vehicle downtime; a 10% reduction in fuel spend through improved route planning and driver coaching; a 17% drop in speeding events; and an increase in vehicle inspection completion rates from 80% to 93%. This has collectively resulted in £100,000 of annual cost savings.

Matthew Reid, Head of Plant & Transport at Cappagh Browne, emphasized the role of driver education in these achievements, noting that increased awareness of risks has motivated self-correction of unsafe habits. The company has integrated Samsara footage into driver training programs and introduced real-time idling reports to reinforce fuel-saving habits fleet-wide.

Philip van der Wilt, SVP and GM EMEA at Samsara, commented on Cappagh Browne’s results, highlighting the role of connected operations in enhancing safety and efficiency within the utilities sector. With plans to expand its use of Samsara technologies, Cappagh Browne aims to streamline compliance monitoring and strengthen incident response across its wastewater network.
