Tesla is currently focusing on optimizing the software and hardware aspects of its humanoid robot, Optimus, based on insights from China's supply chain. The company paused component procurement for Optimus two weeks ago to allow for design adjustments.

Suppliers indicate that Tesla has not explicitly stated a reduction in parts orders but plans to finalize a new production schedule once the Optimus design updates are complete. This process is expected to take about two months. Elon Musk recently highlighted on social media that the updated Optimus will feature significant performance improvements over the 2023 second-generation model, including enhanced voice interaction capabilities supported by Grok.

By the end of May this year, Tesla had acquired sufficient components to manufacture 1,200 Optimus units and produced nearly 1,000. However, with the current pause in procurement, it's unlikely that Tesla will meet its initial promise to produce 5,000 units this year.
