T-Mobile (TMUS) has successfully completed a $2 billion network expansion project across Florida, ensuring the entire state is covered by ultra-fast 5G services. This multi-year investment significantly boosts internet speed, reliability, and coverage for approximately 22 million residents, enhancing the connectivity for businesses, schools, and emergency services statewide.
The comprehensive expansion involved the creation and upgrading of numerous cell sites, achieving 1,282 new or retained sites through the merger with Sprint and nearly 1,350 upgraded sites across the state. This upgrade allows T-Mobile to deliver average statewide 5G download speeds of 266.7 MB per second, marking a 216% increase since 2021. The project ensures that almost 100% of Floridians now have access to T-Mobile's high-speed 5G network.
With Florida’s susceptibility to hurricanes, T-Mobile has fortified 1,375 sites for improved disaster resilience, incorporating permanent backup power and pre-positioned response units. The deployment of T-Satellite with Starlink further enhances connectivity in areas unreachable by traditional networks, promising increased reliability during critical moments.
Additionally, T-Mobile’s network investment is set to transform business operations, as evidenced by its partnership with Miller Electric in Jacksonville. This collaboration will utilize a 5G private network to support autonomous vehicle operations, demonstrating the potential for innovation and economic development fostered by T-Mobile’s infrastructure.
Beyond network improvements, T-Mobile is expanding its retail footprint with over 200 stores across Florida and investing in community initiatives such as Hometown Grants and the Friday Night 5G Lights campaign. These programs aim to revitalize public spaces and support local football programs, illustrating T-Mobile's commitment to strengthening community ties alongside technological advancements.
