Microsoft (MSFT, Financial) has commenced a significant round of layoffs in its gaming division. The company has informed employees that it will cut approximately 10% of the workforce, starting with its King division in Barcelona, responsible for the Candy Crush game. This reduction affects around 200 jobs.
Other European offices, including ZeniMax, are also in the process of notifying employees about upcoming layoffs. The U.S. branch will be briefed on the number of positions to be eliminated. As of January 2024, Microsoft's gaming division employs approximately 20,000 people.
