- Comprehensive educational initiative with practical safety guidelines
- Integration of Avast Scam Guardian and Secure Browser solutions for enhanced protection
Avast, a consumer Cyber Safety brand of Gen (NASDAQ: GEN), has issued a report revealing that 59% of older adults have fallen prey to cybercrime, with over 80% of these incidents attributed to scams and social engineering tactics. Despite warnings from 84% of adults to their older relatives about risky online behaviors, only 53% have actually altered their habits in response to these cautions.
The report also indicates a troubling trend wherein 47% of older adults continue to write down their passwords on paper, a practice that poses significant security risks. In a bid to address these challenges, Avast has launched its "Safe Tech Talk" initiative, which emphasizes five best practices: strengthening password habits, recognizing scam red flags, understanding common scams, setting up security tools like Avast Scam Guardian, and establishing a support network for collective cyber safety.
Avast encourages families to initiate the "Safe Tech Talk," providing guidance on how to enhance online safety and protect personal and financial information. This initiative aims to empower families in dealing with cyber threats by sharing practical safety tips and tools designed to safeguard older adults against potential scams and cyber threats.
