Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PCG, Financial), a leading utility provider in Northern and Central California, has announced a collaboration with Bridger Photonics, a global leader in methane detection technology, to improve methane leak detection and enhance safety measures. Bridger's advanced Gas Mapping LiDAR® (GML) technology will allow PG&E to identify and prioritize repairs across its extensive natural gas pipeline network, spanning over 42,141 miles of distribution and 6,438 miles of transmission pipelines.

This partnership with Bridger aims to strengthen PG&E’s ongoing efforts to reduce methane emissions, ensuring a more resilient and affordable energy supply. Bridger's cutting-edge aerial technology delivers precise leak localization and quantification, enabling PG&E to respond promptly and efficiently to potential safety risks.

In 2024, PG&E exceeded its 2025 methane emission reduction targets by achieving a 42% reduction from its 2015 baseline, additionally ranking first on the 2024 US Utilities Decarbonization Index. The collaboration with Bridger Photonics is set to further accelerate PG&E’s emissions reduction journey, contributing to the company’s long-term goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040.

According to Jeff Janvier, Lead of Gas Distribution Operations at PG&E, the integration of Bridger’s technology represents a significant advancement in managing risks and lowering emissions, crucially improving the safety and efficiency of their natural gas systems. CEO of Bridger Photonics, Ben Little, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting its role in fostering a safer, resilient, and cost-effective energy supply across California.
