Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (CDNS) has announced the industry’s first LPDDR6/5X memory IP system solution, operating at an impressive 14.4Gbps, representing a significant 50% increase in speed over earlier LPDDR DRAM technologies. This advancement is crucial for next-generation AI infrastructure, addressing the increasing demand for memory bandwidth and capacity required by AI large language models (LLMs), agentic AI, and other compute-heavy applications.

The LPDDR6/5X memory IP system is designed with a sophisticated PHY architecture and a high-performance controller, supporting both LPDDR6 and LPDDR5X DRAM protocols. This ensures optimal flexibility and superior power, performance, and area (PPA) efficiency, catering to the needs of traditional monolithic SoCs as well as multi-die system architectures through Cadence's chiplet framework.

Boyd Phelps, senior vice president and general manager of the Silicon Solutions Group at Cadence, emphasized the importance of the new memory IP in the evolution of data centers. "The shift from HPC compute virtualization to AI training and inference at scale necessitates efficient data movement via memory interfaces, with LPDDR6 emerging as a key enabler of accelerated compute," he stated.

This new IP system adds to Cadence's extensive portfolio of memory IP solutions, including DDR, GDDR, and HBM, all crafted with the company’s leading analog/mixed-signal design tools. The LPDDR6/5X's compatibility with Cadence’s UCIe™-based chiplet framework facilitates rapid and reliable chiplet realization, enabling swift time-to-market for customers.

The advanced LPDDR6/5X solution is now available for customer engagements, marking another milestone in Cadence's commitment to memory IP leadership and innovation in the semiconductor industry.
