Initial claims for unemployment benefits in the United States fell for the fourth straight week, reaching their lowest level in two months. For the week ending July 5, claims decreased by 5,000 to 227,000. This figure was below the median forecast of 235,000 from a Bloomberg survey of economists.
Meanwhile, the number of continuing unemployment claims rose to 1.97 million in the previous week, marking the highest level since the end of 2021. This increase aligned with the median forecast from economists surveyed.
